Proving once again he is a natural at comedy, President Obama last night delivered his last White House Correspondents’ dinner speech to a room filled with journalists, celebrities and Bernie Sanders.
Bernie attended the formal affair in the same blue suit he routinely wears at his rallies while Jane, his wife, wore an elegant evening dress more appropriate for the black tie event.
Obama even quipped about Bernie’s look.
“Bernie you look like a million bucks. Or to put it in terms you’ll understand, you look like 37,000 donations of $27.”
Obama started his stand up routine by noting, if his material worked well, “I am gonna use it at Goldman Sachs next year.”
He observed that next year, “Someone else will be standing here in this very spot and it is anyone’s guess who she will be.”
Probably the best one-liner of the night came when Obama spoke of his recent, surprisingly-high approval ratings. “The last time I was this high,” said the President, “I was trying to decide on my major.”
As great as Obama was with his monologue, the real comedian and host for the evening, Larry Wilmore, was a flop. No doubt it is hard following an act like Obama’s. Add the fact that your material is not funny, and your delivery did not resonate with your crowd, it’s a given you will not be asked back for a repeat gig.
Contrary to what many of his detractors may think, Obama will go down as one of our nation’s best and most consequential presidents. He will no doubt be remembered as our country’s greatest Comedian in Chief … ever.
It is hard to imagine next year’s WHC dinner. Hillary just isn’t a natural at comedy like Barry.

The president killed it last month. He was funny, self deprecating and took appropriate shots that he should take. I love LArry wilmore but agree that this was hot either his crowd or his best moment. He even acknowledged that they were a tough crowd.
While president HRC won’t be as funny, a president Drumpf would kill here. There might actually be real blood drawn.

Going to miss Barry, if nothing more than his sense of humor.

The coolest, funniest president in American history. Also probably the most under appreciated president in American history!

Right on all points!

On January 20, 2009 Republican Leaders in Congress literally plotted to sabotage and undermine U.S. economy during President Obama’s Inauguration. Present at the four hour meeting were 12 Republican lawmakers, Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith.
Jim DeMint’s (R) comment made it clear, “Our goal is a complete gridlock for the next two years. There is no place for bi-partisanship, compromise, only acceptable outcome is total victory and any politician that disagrees will be treated as a traitor. This is war.” Two years ended up being more than seven years.
Soon after that secret meeting, the Republican leader publicly announced, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president,” Mitch McConnell. Thank God they failed.
Larry Wilmore spoke from the heart for the millions of his brothers and sisters, when he said to our President Barack Hussein Obama, “You did it!……” Maybe if he could have said, “my brother”, instead of the words he chose; it might have been more acceptable and gone down better. But given that we know the weight of the burden the President had to carry to survive and be triumphant, Larry spoke volumes for many of us. Thank you Larry, we feel you, brother.

Normally stuff like that would be considered treason. I remember Rush Limbaugh say “I hope he fails.” You’re right… our President accomplishing as much as he has is a miracle.
