Gloves Off, Obama Criticizes Trump, By Name, For First Time

September 7, 2018 By John DeProspo Leave a Comment

During a speech at the University of Illinois today, Barack Obama, for the first time since leaving office, attacked Donald Trump by name.

Speaking of the current corrosive and corrupt political climate, Obama said, “It did not start with Donald Trump. He is a symptom, not the cause. He’s just capitalizing on resentments that politicians have been fanning for years.”

This is a departure from the deliberate way Obama has avoided direct criticism of his successor. During his much-celebrated speech at the Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture in Johannesburg earlier this year, Obama attacked the “politics of fear and resentment,” but never named Trump directly.

With only 60 days until the midterm elections, Obama appears to have made the calculation that this is no time to be timid.

“You need to vote because our democracy depends on it. … This moment really is different,” Obama told his audience. “The consequences of any of us sitting on the sidelines are more dire.”

Pointing out to his audience that only one in five young people voted in the 2014 midterm elections, Obama cautioned the students there is only one way to save our democracy … “Vote, vote, vote.”

Obama’s impassioned speech to the young audience reminded many of his breakthrough keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention that thrust him into the national spotlight.

It is only a matter of time before Donald Trump attacks Obama for what he will undoubtedly see as a challenge and breach in “presidential” etiquette.

From all indications, the new, energized Obama is not only ready for the fight but relishes the opportunity to be back in the political arena.

Trump Mocks McCain In Life … “The Maverick” Disses Trump In Death

August 26, 2018 By John DeProspo 5 Comments

Oh sweet justice!

If you recall, at an event in Iowa, then candidate Donald Trump belittled John McCain’s Vietnam war record by questioning his heroism.

“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

Both Democrats and Republicans roundly criticized Trump for his comment. Though it was suggested Trump apologize to McCain, he never retracted the statement.

And now that the U.S. Senator, often called “The Maverick,” has passed away at the age of 81, it is McCain who gets the last dig.

While almost anyone who’s anyone will be attending McCain’s funeral, there will be one very noticeable absentee … Donald Trump.

It was McCain’s wish that Trump be barred from his funeral.

To make matters worse, McCain left specific instructions that a former president, Barack Obama, eulogize him!

That’s got to hurt the man-child currently occupying the Oval Office whose main goal is to erase Obama’s legislative accomplishments.

As one observer, Bruce Lindner, has noted, “Other than Obama’s roast of Trump at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner seven years ago, I don’t think anything anyone has ever done to Trump will infuriate him as much as this.”

How humiliating! How perfect!

Thank you, Sen. McCain, for your years of service to our country. However, I do not think I will ever forgive you for unleashing Sarah Palin on an defenseless nation!

Now all we need is for some more justice to be shown to our incompetent, narcissistic, illegitimate president by another true American patriot … one Robert S. Mueller.

Which One Is The Golf Addict?

May 6, 2018 By John DeProspo 2 Comments

According to the Independent, Donald Trump plays golf almost three times as much as Barack Obama. That’s the same Donald Trump who promised voters, “I’m not gonna play much golf because there’s a lot of work to be done.”

Obama played a total of 333 rounds of golf during his 8 years as president. According to Trumpgolfcount.com, Trump has already hit the links 105 times in 1  1/3 years in office… at a cost of over $65 million to John Q. Public.

Like so many Trump lies told to his gullible supporters during the presidential campaign, the “no golf” whopper is a real doozy. It is like the “hole-in-one” of lies… a spectacular feat!

Trump Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize … Seriously!

May 3, 2018 By John DeProspo 2 Comments

Proving once again that satire is no longer possible in the Age of Trump, a group of House Republicans has formally nominated Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize because of his role in solving the North Korean nuclear problem.

The fact that the North Korean “nuclear problem” has not been “solved” did not seem to faze the 18 very conservative Congressional supporters who endorsed the idea.

Rep. Luke Messer, R-Ind., made the suggestion in a letter Wednesday sent to members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

Granted the rules for nominating someone for a peace prize are relatively loose, but come on!

Trump is the same guy who just recently ordered American bombing in Syria.

Trump is the same guy who wants to back out of the Iran nuclear agreement.

Trump is the same guy who wants to keep Muslims out of the country.

Trump is the same guy who called Haiti and African countries “shitholes.”

Trump is the same guy who wants more American nuclear weapons.

If a lasting peace can be brought to the Korean peninsula and North Korea gives up it nuclear weapons, then yes, Trump may be worthy of having bumbled and stumbled his way into receiving the prestigious award.

But anyone who knows a thing or two about North Korean understands how remote is such a possibility.

“The United States’ diplomatic goal – the denuclearization of North Korea in the near future – is far beyond what is realistically achievable,” warns James Acton of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. In a worst-case scenario, according to Acton, a failed negotiation could even act as “prelude to war” as tensions would invariably escalate in the aftermath.

Not only is talk of Trump and Nobel Peace Prize in the same sentence way premature, it is also ludicrous.

Perhaps all this buzz of Trump receiving the Nobel Peace Prize has something to do with his predecessor receiving the prize his first year in office. Ya think?

Mitt Romney … Mocked In 2012, Vindicated In 2017

July 19, 2017 By John DeProspo 2 Comments

It wasn’t that long ago the idea of Russia being our “number one” geopolitical foe was laughable. Literally.

In a 2012 presidential debate, GOP candidate Mitt Romney was roundly derided for saying Russia presented the “greatest geopolitical threat” to the country. To almost everyone watching the televised match, it appeared Romney had committed a major faux pas and had served up a big old softball for President Obama to hit out of the park.

And Obama did.

Reminding Romney of the threat presented to our country by Al Qaeda, Obama quipped, “The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because you know, the Cold War has been over for 20 years.”

The Democratic Party tweeted from their official account, “Romney, who calls Russia our ‘No. 1 geopolitical foe,’ doesn’t seem to realize it’s the 21st century. #RomneyNotReady.”

Boy how Obama and the Democrats are singing a different tune today!

With zero doubt from our intelligence agencies that Putin and his band of hackers meddled in our 2016 presidential election, perhaps enough to have handed the presidency to Donald Trump, Romney’s assessment was beyond spot-on.

A foreign adversary, Russia, launched a stealth attack against the heart of our democracy – its electoral integrity – by helping the candidate of their choice, Donald Trump, through sophisticated cyber warfare.

But as bad as this is, it doesn’t appear the party that benefited from such interference is all that concerned about it. The GOP has not only become the party of Trump, but the party of Putin.

Things have gotten so bad, so out of whack, that Republicans have been either silent or in agreement with Trump’s defense of obvious collusion between his son Don Jr. and Russian nationals: “Most politicians would have gone to a meeting like the one Don Jr. attended in order to get info on an opponent. That’s politics!”

Ronald Reagan must be rolling over in his grave wondering how his beloved GOP became sympathizers of what he often dubbed the “Evil Empire.”

What Romney understood at the time, and even a smart politician such as Obama did not, is that the Cold War never really ended … not with Russia being ruled by the former KGB spymaster, Vladimir Putin.
