No Champagne For Me This Year, Thank You

December 31, 2018 By John DeProspo 4 Comments

As we are about to ring in the New Year, I’m in a sour mood. What is there to celebrate? The end of a horrible 2018 about to be replaced by an even lousier 2019?

Yes, I know, the Dems have retaken the House and are sure to investigate Trump up the wazoo. Yes, I know we may soon get Mueller’s report on the Trump-Russia investigation exposing all sorts of Trumpian crimes and misdeeds. Yes, I know even some Trump voters are beginning to see the light and moving away from their support for 45.

But something keeps sticking in my craw … what if none of this matters? What if we are stuck with another year of Trump sinking to new lows? What if Trump is around to run for reelection in 2020? What if he is reelected?

Yes the House, by a simple majority, has the power to start impeachment proceedings against Trump. But would enough Republican senators vote to remove him from office? If all Senate Democrats voted to convict Trump, they would still need the support of 20 Republicans, for a total of 67, in order to send him packing.

I am not sure that will ever happen as most Republicans have so tied their political fortunes to Trump that his demise will be seen as their demise. Trump still remains wildly popular with the Republican base. Unless Mueller reveals something truly earth-shattering, I don’t expect Trump will be made to walk the plank.

But what about Mueller indicting Trump for his crimes?

This is also unlikely. The Department of Justice has a long-standing legal opinion that sitting presidents cannot be indicted. While this is only a policy, and not settled law, Mueller is the type of straight arrow to follow such a policy.

The thought of one (or two) more year of Trump sitting behind that desk in the Oval Office makes me want to lose my lunch. Just how much more mayhem will he be allowed to inflict on our nation by those feckless, enabling Republicans? Just how much more damage can our democracy withstand before the harm done is irreparable?

So go ahead with all your New Year’s celebrating. Rattle those noisemakers. Bow those horns. Go ahead and open that other bottle of champagne. For me I’ll stick to the non-alcoholic eggnog.

Dems Set To Propose New National Holiday

December 15, 2018 By John DeProspo 2 Comments

Reprint from moronmajority.com

During a White House interview on Tuesday, Donald Trump said there would be hell to pay if he is impeached.

“I think that the people would revolt if that happened,” Trump told Reuters.

Asked about Trump’s comment, a senior House Democrat shared a different predication.

“The day Trump leaves office, whether by resignation, impeachment or an act of god, will be a day for rejoicing, not revolting,” said the congressman, who wished to remain anonymous.

The lawmaker revealed there is even talk among House Democrats that Trump’s last day in office should be celebrated as a national holiday.

“The end of our long national nightmare should be observed … forever,” said a spokesperson for the soon-to-be Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

Of course the Republican-controlled Senate would never go along with such a proposal.

The idea, for now, will have to be put on ice until 2020 when Democrats retake the Oval Office, the Senate and increase their control of the House.

U.S. May Yet Get Its First Female President

June 20, 2018 By John DeProspo 4 Comments

President Pelosi… the title has a nice alliterative ring to it, don’t you think?

Yes, while the possibility of the California representative ever moving into the White House is slimmer than a germ’s chance at a Lysol convention, it’s fun, and heck downright delicious, to consider!

Here’s the scenario. First, Democrats regain control of the House (and maybe the Senate, for good measure) after the mid-term elections. Following explosive revelations by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller of the Trump regime’s wrongdoing, the House impeaches both Trump and Pence. The Senate then votes to convict both and removes them from office at the same time.  Of course, House Democrats would have to vote Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House once again. But as the next in line to the presidency, Pelosi becomes the nation’s 46th president.

If this farfetched scenario were ever to happen, it would not take place in 2018 but 2019, when the new Congress organizes in January. So the earliest this theoretical Democratic majority could consider articles of impeachment would be the start of the new year..

Hey, almost anything is possible, no matter how ridiculously unlikely. Remember when we all thought there was no way in hell we would ever mouth the words “President Trump?”

SDSU – Home Of “The Aztecs” – Offers Course on Removing Trump

February 28, 2018 By John DeProspo Leave a Comment

In a move that has right-wing media outlets in a tizzy, San Diego State University is offering a seminar titled: “Trump: Impeachment, Removal or Conviction?” To Trump supporters, this is just one more example of academia’s bias against the president.

A story about the class first appeared on Campus Reform, a website that aims to “expose liberal bias on America’s campuses.” The article falsely states the course is “dedicated exclusively to the topic of removing Donald Trump from office.”

University officials, however, have stated the class isn’t actually focused on getting Donald Trump out of the White House.

According to the course description, the weekend-long, one credit class will focus on the “two constitutional grounds: impeachment and removal (25th Amendment), and the possible charges of the independent counsel, the powers of the president, a history of the creation of that office and the comparison of divine right and rule of law leadership, presidential impeachments, including (President Richard) Nixon’s de facto impeachment” and more.

Following is a statement provided by SDSU:

The course presents an overall framework of impeachment, removal, or criminal investigation of a president and rather than focusing on President Trump, reviews all 19 impeachments in U.S. history. The one-unit, weekend class is not a requirement for graduation and is not paid for by state funds.

Trump TV, otherwise known as Fox News, is having a field day with the story. In a segment on Fox & Friends, co-host Ainsley Earhardt, interviewed the president of the SDSU College Republicans, Brandon Jones, who offered up this view:

“I think the dangerous part of it is that they are making a very strong claim that the president has sort of committed crimes of treason or bribery and that he is, you know, been allegedly accused of violating the Article 2 Section 4 of the Constitution.”

Perhaps the SDSU student would be well advised to learn a thing or two about another part of the Constitution … the First Amendment.

The irony that the school’s nickname is ”the Aztecs”, an ancient and proud nomadic tribe in northern Mexico, is rich.

State Of The Union?… Broken

January 30, 2018 By John DeProspo 5 Comments

-“All the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again”

Tonight, Donald Trump will deliver his first State of the Union address. No doubt we will hear how great the country is doing under his strong leadership. The official theme of Trump’s monologue will be “building a safe, strong, and proud America.”

The address is sure to be filled with many half-truths and outright lies. Trump will unquestionably take credit for a booming economy (stock market) that had its origins under the Obama administration. He will falsely claim this is all due to his tax cuts and deregulatory agenda.

But no matter what fiction Trump is willing to peddle, the majority of Americans won’t be buying the snake oil. They know better. They can see.

They can see a country divided like never before (at least not since the Vietnam War).

They can see hate crimes on the rise.

They can see racism displayed openly.

They can see a dysfunctional healthcare system.

They can see an unrelenting onslaught on immigrants.

They can see the looting of the treasury to benefit millionaires and corporations.

They can see an assault on the Constitution and the rule of law.

They can see a political party defending and supporting an incompetent and, mostly likely, corrupt president.

They can see the open rejection of political norms and institutions.

They can see a steady and continuing attack on the free press.

Many Americans are hoping the midterm elections will put an end to our national nightmare when it is believed Democrats will regain control of the House.

But even if Democrats flip the House and begin impeachment proceedings, it is the Senate that votes to expel a president. The odds that two-thirds of senators will vote for conviction are best described as slim.

One thing is for sure, however. The Trump regime will eventually come to an end. Unfortunately, it will take years, perhaps decades, to undo the damage done by Trump, and his band of enablers, to that great country Reagan once called “ a beacon of hope, a light unto the nations.”
