A “Dear Nancy” Letter

May 21, 2019 By John DeProspo 5 Comments

Dear Speaker Pelosi,

We get it. You believe it’s politically advantageous to keep Donald Trump around until 2020.  And so you are pooh-poohing impeachment proceedings.

And while you said, “This is not about politics at all” during your contentious closed-door meeting yesterday with fellow Democrats (wink, wink), we know it’s all about politics.

But didn’t you take an oath to uphold the Constitution? We have a brazen criminal in the White House and you have the power, or should I say, the duty, to remove him from office. OK, at least, to get the ball rolling.

You think you can really pull a McConnell? You know, when good ol’ Mitch refused to carry out his constitutional duty of holding a confirmation hearing on Merrick Garland because there was an election coming up soon and we should “let the American people decide”?

The next presidential election is over 17 months away. Too many bad things can happen during that time if Trump is still commander in chief.

You know, like a WAR … a FINANCIAL MELTDOWN. Heck, anything is possible with that loose cannon in the Oval Office.

Oh, I see, while that would be bad for the country, it would be good for Democrats’ chances of regaining the White House, and maybe even the Senate.

But what about that pesky document called the Constitution … the rule of law? What kind of precedent would you be setting by letting perhaps the most corrupt president ever to occupy the White House hold on to his awesome powers?

You know you have more than enough evidence of “high crimes and misdemeanors” to begin impeachment proceedings tomorrow. No further investigations needed.

Oh, right, you think impeachment is divisive and would further divide the country; that it would just rile up Trump’s base. I have some news for you … Trump’s base is already riled up! They already think Dems are out to get their man just like the “fake news media.”

It’s clear to see that you want Trump around because, contrary to popular belief, you believe a weakened, disgraced Trump would be very beatable in 2020. You want him to continue to slowly hang himself with his own rope; to continue to commit crimes and obstruct justice. Now we certainly wouldn’t want to run against a “moderate” Republican in 2020, say like a Kasich or Romney!

Sorry but I don’t think we have the time to play such political games. Too much at stake.

You need to start an impeachment inquiry, slow walk it as much as you like, but do what the Constitution requires … what the country needs. Or run the risk of losing Democratic support in 2020 because of your acquiescence and inaction during this critical time in American history.

Yes, it’s going to take some effort to overcome the false narrative put out by Trump’s lawyer (and Attorney General) Mr. Barr. But you can do it. The American people will be on your side once the true facts come out. Put Senate Republicans on the spot!

Don’t overthink this, please.

Is Trump Losing His Gift For Derisive Nicknames?

January 25, 2019 By John DeProspo 1 Comment

Donald Trump is perhaps best known for slapping derisive nicknames on political enemies. Yet a few days ago, with a perfect opportunity to drop one on Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, Trump seemed to reach for a nickname only to come up empty.

“Nancy Pelosi, or Nancy, as I call her, doesn’t want to hear the truth,” said Trump on Wednesday in comments reported by CNN’s Ryan Struyk.

Could it be Trump is afraid to reach into his bag of slights when it comes to Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi?

No. Trump has in the past hit Pelosi with put-downs such as “High Tax, High Crime Nancy Pelosi” and “MS-13 Lover Nancy Pelosi.”

So why put the brakes on his moniker-machine-of-mean now? Could it be Trump has more respect (fear) for Pelosi considering she is now Speaker of the House … a powerful woman who can take him down through impeachment proceedings?

For some fun, here is a list of nicknames Trump has come up with for some of his foes:

Crooked Hillary (Hillary Clinton)

Cheatin’ Obama (Barack Obama)

Mr. Magoo (Jeff Sessions)

Little Adam Schitt (Adam Schiff)

Low IQ Maxine Waters

Crazy Jim (Jim Acosta)

Sneaky Dianne (Dianne Feinstein)

Crazy Bernie (Bernie Sanders)

Cryin’ Chuck / Fake Tears Chuck Schumer

Low Energy Jeb Bush

Little Marco (Marco Rubio)

Little George Stephanopoulos

Lyin’ Ted (Ted Cruz)

Pocahontas / Goofy Elizabeth Warren

Little Rocket Man (Kim Jong Un)

Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd

Wacky (Frederica Wilson)

Liberal Puppet Jones (Doug Jones)

Wacky Omarosa (Omarosa Manigault Newman)

Maybe Donald Trump is not such a loose cannon after all? Maybe he has enough sense to realize how precarious his situation is and how much power Speaker Nancy Pelosi holds over him? Maybe he is not a total moron just a half-wit?

Nancy Pelosi, Like Any Good Parent, Knows How To Treat A Temper Tantrum

January 17, 2019 By John DeProspo 2 Comments

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has politely requested that if the partial government shutdown is not resolved by the end of this week, Donald Trump should either postpone his scheduled State of the Union Address (January 29) or deliver it in writing.

Pelosi’s request seems eminently reasonable. Why go through the farce of having Trump declare how strong our Union is at a time when a large part of the government is shuttered … as a direct result of Trump’s own actions?

Why give Trump a platform to lie to the American people about the nature and cause of the shutdown? Why allow Trump to falsely accuse the Democrats of “obstruction”, as Rep. Steve Scalise and Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell did recently?

Why allow for the optics of the entire Republican side of the aisle rising in unison with resounding applause when Trump badmouths the Democrats?

If Trump wants to deliver his “address”, let him do so from the Oval Office or wherever else he chooses.

Nancy is one smart cookie. She will not be a willing participant in what would surely be a Trump burlesque show.

Let’s face it, our Union is broken on so many levels … political, economic, social and moral. And no, it’s not simply because we have an incompetent, greedy narcissist in the White House but largely because of the current gang of Congressional Republicans lead by “Turtle-Face” McConnell.

So, no, we do not need Trump to take us on a trip to “Fantasy Island.”

The U.S. Constitution mandates in Article II, Section 3 that presidents “shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”

But the Constitution gives no specifics on how that should be done. What we’ve come to know as the State of the Union address — the pageantry, the televised address and the President patting himself on the back — is a relatively recent phenomenon. And the practice of delivering an in-person speech before a joint session of Congress has not always been the norm.

Way to go, Nancy! Like any good parent, you know how to treat a child in the throes of a temper tantrum… you do not reward him.

Trump Declares All-Out War Against Dems

January 5, 2019 By John DeProspo 2 Comments

Donald Trump is adamant about getting his big, beautiful wall. He has threatened to shutdown the government for months or even years. He has warned Nancy Pelosi, and her fellow Democrats, not to fock with him.

“If she and the Dems won’t fund my wall, they better get ready to say hello to my little friend.”

Sorry Michelle But That Whole “When They Go Low We Go High” Thing Is A Recipe For Losers

October 7, 2018 By John DeProspo 2 Comments

For a clear snapshot of what is wrong with the Democratic Party, all one had to do was watch this Thursday’s press conference given by Chuck Schumer and Dianne Feinstein after the FBI issued its Kavanaugh report.

For those who missed it, click this link.

After what many labeled a sham and a whitewash of an investigative report, all the soft-spoken and staid Feinstein (85) could muster was to call the report “a product of an incomplete investigation.”

The milksop and mealy-mouthed Schumer added, “ We had many fears that this was a very limited process that would constrain the FBI from getting the facts … those fears have been realized.”

They left the press conference without taking questions.

At a time when the two senior Democratic leaders should have been blowing a gasket, we saw measured restraint. When they needed to do what Lindsey Graham did during the Senate confirmation hearing (give an impassioned screed), we got polite criticism.

Yes, the Republicans had the votes no matter what histrionics the couple could have engaged in. But that is not the point.  At a critical moment in our history, the Democrats lacked passion and failed to show the rightful indignation the situation called for.

The future of the Democratic Party looks dim with leaders like Schumer and Feinstein.

In a tweet later in the week, the 78-year-old House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi added:  “Today is a profoundly heart-breaking day.”

How profoundly inadequate, Nancy!

Democrats need to learn to fight fire with fire. Going into a battle holding a knife while the other side has a gun is not only dangerous but also stupid.

What will it take for Democrats to learn?

No, Michelle, “going high when they go low” is not a way to defeat a ruthless opponent.

Yes, your advice might get you brownie points in the afterlife, but it will do nothing to stop the evil in this human realm.

U.S. May Yet Get Its First Female President

June 20, 2018 By John DeProspo 4 Comments

President Pelosi… the title has a nice alliterative ring to it, don’t you think?

Yes, while the possibility of the California representative ever moving into the White House is slimmer than a germ’s chance at a Lysol convention, it’s fun, and heck downright delicious, to consider!

Here’s the scenario. First, Democrats regain control of the House (and maybe the Senate, for good measure) after the mid-term elections. Following explosive revelations by Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller of the Trump regime’s wrongdoing, the House impeaches both Trump and Pence. The Senate then votes to convict both and removes them from office at the same time.  Of course, House Democrats would have to vote Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House once again. But as the next in line to the presidency, Pelosi becomes the nation’s 46th president.

If this farfetched scenario were ever to happen, it would not take place in 2018 but 2019, when the new Congress organizes in January. So the earliest this theoretical Democratic majority could consider articles of impeachment would be the start of the new year..

Hey, almost anything is possible, no matter how ridiculously unlikely. Remember when we all thought there was no way in hell we would ever mouth the words “President Trump?”

“Dreams, if they’re any good, are always a little bit crazy. ”
