Trump And The Will Of The People

December 19, 2019 By John DeProspo 4 Comments

If you watched any of the House impeachment hearings, you undoubtedly heard this popular Republican talking point … the Democrats, through their hatred of Donald Trump, were trying to undo the “will of the people.” Of course, that argument is total nonsense as the “will of the people” was to elect Hillary Clinton president.

Donald Trump was only able to secure the presidency through the arcane system of the electoral college. As far as “the people” were concerned, they voted for Clinton over Trump by nearly 3 million votes.

The House of Representatives is often described as “The People’s House.” And yesterday the House voted out two articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. One for abuse of power and the other for obstruction of Congress.

Yes, the people, through their elected representatives, voted to indict the man who has so debased, and continues to debase, the Oval Office. This is the true “will of the people.” The action now moves to the Senate for the trial of Donald J. Trump.

Democrats regained control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections for many reasons. One of the main reasons was to get us to the exact point where we find ourselves today … on the doorstep of removing Trump from office.

The Senate is often referred to as “the world’s greatest deliberative body.” That glowing phrase is now being called into question with Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, having already telegraphed the fix is in.

Speaking to Sean Hannity of Fox News, McConnell flat out stated there was “zero chance” Trump would be removed from office, and promised “total coordination” with the White House and Trump’s defense team.

“The case is so darn weak coming over from the House,” he said. “We all know how it’s going to end.”

It remains to be seen what type of trial, if any, the Senate will hold. But don’t hold your breath for anything that remotely resembles fairness.

After yesterday’s historic vote in the House, Donald Trump can truthfully say he got more votes than Clinton … well, yes, Bill Clinton.

When the House voted to impeach William Jefferson Clinton on charges of obstruction, the vote was 221-212. Trump outdid Clinton by securing a 229-198 vote on his obstruction charge.

Could William Barr Have A John Mitchell Problem?

April 4, 2019 By John DeProspo 3 Comments

They couldn’t take it anymore.  So now some members of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s otherwise “leak-proof” team are starting to talk.

According to The New York Times, a few of Mueller’s investigators have said Attorney General William Barr’s summary of their report did not sufficiently jibe with the results of their investigation, suggesting their findings could be more damaging to Trump than Barr conveyed,

Of course this comes as no surprise.  Trump’s handpicked AG was always going to spin Mueller’s report in the most positive light, i.e. creating the impression it cleared his boss.

Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee authorized Chairman Jerry Nadler to issue a subpoena for the full Mueller report along with all the underlying documents.

Although we may be in for a long court fight, the law is on the side of the Democrats.

The full report will eventually make its way to Nadler, if not the general public.

And if Barr’s 4-page summary was so off the mark that it can be shown he intentionally misrepresented the facts contained in the Mueller report, he may have a John Mitchell problem.

John Mitchell was Richard Nixon’s Attorney General who did his best to cover-up his boss’s crimes.

For his efforts, Mitchell was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury and sentenced to two and a half to eight years in prison for his role in the Watergate break-in and cover-up.

Could Barr be so loyal… so dumb?

As Mary Anne Marsh, a Democratic political analyst, recently wrote in an article on FoxNews.com (of all places), “And if they continue to stonewall, then Trump and Barr will face the consequences rendered by the American people and history…just like Nixon and Mitchell.”

It is becoming increasingly clear that Trump and his Republican enablers are suffering from a bad case of premature exultation.

Ready For Some November Fireworks?

November 1, 2018 By John DeProspo 3 Comments

With all the excitement, and nervousness, surrounding the upcoming midterm elections, it’s easy to forget about Bobby Three Sticks. The consummate professional, Robert Mueller III has gone radio silent over the past few months.

Unlike former FBI Director James Comey, who weighed in on the Hillary Clinton email investigation days before the 2016 election, Mueller has honored the longstanding Justice Department policy that prosecutors should not take actions that might affect pending elections.

Rest assured, however, Mueller has not been idly passing time sipping a tropical drink under a shady palm tree somewhere in the Bahamas. The man has simply been quietly and methodically going about his business investigating possible Trump-Russia collusion during the 2016 presidential election and subsequent obstruction of justice by Trump.

Just last week Mueller interviewed the former White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon … for the third time. It is being reported by Politico that the Special Counsel’s office may have already issued a subpoena for Trump to testify in front of a grand jury.

No matter what happens after next Tuesday’s election, expect some fireworks  (indictments, reports?) out of the reserved and staid former Eagle Scout in the very near future.

If the Democrats, as predicted, take back control of the House, expect our “So-Called” President to become even more unhinged and erratic.

The final episodes of the best reality show on TV may finally be upon us.
