Satirists Declare National Emergency as Trump’s Cabinet Picks Outpace Their Wildest Spoofs

In an unprecedented move, the nation’s leading satirists gathered on the steps of the Capitol today to stage a protest against what they call the “unbearable tyranny of reality.” Their target? … Donald J. Trump. With one shocking Cabinet pick after another, many worry they soon may be unemployed.

“Trump is literally putting us out of business,” said a visibly distraught Andy Gotwitz, host of the satirical show This Is Not Real News. “I mean that anti-vaxxer, Robert Kennedy Jr., as Secretary of Health and Human Services? The guy thinks windmills cause autism! How can we compete with that!”

The satirists, carrying signs reading “Leave Room for Parody!” and “Stop Stealing My Punchlines, Donald,” claim that Trump’s announcements have created an existential crisis in their field. “We spend hours trying to come up with absurd scenarios to lampoon these people,” lamented writer Mandy Morewitt. “But Matt Gaetz as Attorney General? What am I supposed to do with that? Photoshop him serving subpoenas at a high school prom? It’s already too on the nose!”

Some critics of the satirists, however, have been unsympathetic. “Maybe they should have worked harder,” said a man dressed as George Santos in a Bigfoot costume, who claimed to be a Trump supporter. “Donald doesn’t just blur the lines between fact and fiction. He erases them! Sorry, but get used to it honey.”

Meanwhile, Trump himself responded to the satirists’ plight during a rally in Florida. “These so-called comedians are very pathetic” he said, waving a printed copy of a New Yorker cartoon. “They’ve got no creativity. No smarts. I’m the most tremendous satire writer in the world. I invented satire. You’re welcome, SNL.”

The satirists say they are considering a new strategy: abandoning politics altogether and turning their attention to less absurd subjects, like alien conspiracy theories or the British monarchy.

At press time, a White House insider revealed the next Cabinet announcement: My Pillow guy, Mike Lindell, as Secretary of Commerce.

“Kill me now,” sighed the collective voice of satire writers everywhere.

Coronavirus Reminds Us Once Again … There Is No Cure For Stupid

April 19, 2020 By John DeProspo 3 Comments

Remember the anti-Obama Tea Party movement, when thousands of crazies hit the streets protesting that communist plot … Obamacare?

It seems we are now in the midst of a relapse of that decade-old anti-government activism. Demonstrations are popping up in many places protesting the stay-at-home orders issued by state governors because of the coronavirus.

“They have a very Tea Party feel,” said Tea Party Express co-founder Sal Russo of the demonstrations.

So far, however, the protests have not been as big as the ones from the Tea Party days. But that could change rapidly as Trump and his favorite network, Fox News, support and encourage the demonstrators.

And just like with the Tea Party protests, we are witnessing stupidity, and illogic, at its highest level through signs the protestors are displaying.

Perhaps the most iconic, and dumbest, anti-Obamacare sign during the Tea Party days was the “Keep Government Out Of My Medicare! You Damn Socialists!”

Now we’re seeing signs such as “Give Me Liberty … Or Give Me Covid-19”

We have “Social Distancing = Communism.”

Then you have “That Face Mask You Were Duped Into Wearing Symbolizes You Losing Your Freedom Of Speech.”

Yet, among these wacky signs, you occasionally see one that actually hits on the real hardships brought about by the coronavirus lockdown orders.

My favorite one of these? “I need a haircut.”

During U.K. Visit, Trump Confuses Jeers For Cheers

June 4, 2019 By John DeProspo 2 Comments

The Brits don’t like Donald Trump. Massive protests took place today, the second day of Trump’s three-day official visit to London.

A giant blimp of a diapered “Baby Trump” and a large talking Trump robot sitting on a toilet, texting, were among the most outrageous props used by demonstrators on Tuesday.

Yet, if you believe Trump, the English love him!

“There were thousands of people cheering,” said Trump. “I don’t see any protests. I did see a small protest today, very small. So, a lot of it is fake news, I hate to say.”

With such a misreading of what’s going on around him, the question once again remains: Is Trump merely delusional or just a flat-out, pathological liar?

Some would argue he is both.
