Did you actually believe the “moderate” John Roberts would be able to convince at least one Trump jurist to honor the Constitution he or she swore to uphold?

Today’s ultra-right-wing Court was never going to issue an injunction against the radical anti-abortion law passed in Texas just like the three Trump nominees where never going to reveal their true feelings about Roe v. Wade and protecting a woman’s right to choose.
I like to believe that Sen. Susan Collins was duped by Kavanaugh’s reassurance that he did not pose a threat to Roe v. Wade’s protections for women and families. But that would be giving Collins too much credit. She had to know what Kavanaugh was all about … and he, along with the other two Trump-appointed ideologues, Gorsuch and Coney Barrett, did not disappoint the anti-abortion forces.
My only hope is now that this so-called “supreme court” has shown its hand (at least on the abortion issue), the backlash will be fierce and unrelenting.
A majority of Americans support a women’s right to choose. Let’s pray that the Republicans up for reelection in the 2022 midterms, those who support the Court’s recent action, all suffer defeat. Let’s hope the Democrats hold their majority in the House and increase their majority in the Senate … and that “Supreme Court reform” (i.e., increasing the number of justices to blunt the Court’s extreme conservative tilt) is at the top of any new legislative agenda.

Unfortunately John, we are tilting at windmills. We knew who they were. Everyone knew WHY they were appointed. Anyone who says otherwise needs to get their head examined. Consensus means nothing to idealogues, which these three were, in addition to the sex pervert Thomas and Alito. Roberts is more concerned with economic matters. It;s time to increase the size of the Court and have term limits.

Term limits, surely. I would add an impeachment process, prosecution for perjury during confirmation, some form of punishment for for overturning stare decisis (Latin for “to stand by things decided.” i.e., the doctrine of precedent. Courts cite to stare decisis when an issue has been previously brought to the court and a ruling already issued.. Roe v Wade is stare decisis ) Also severe punishment for unlawful “legislating from the bench” and contempt of Congress.

I’m tired of all these lying Republican pieces of sh*t. Drastic times call for drastic measures … yes, term limits, stacking the Court and making justices subject to ethics review! We cannot have 2-3 more generations of these lawless “judges” on the bench.

The U.S. Supreme Court wasn’t set at nine members until shortly after the American Civil War. But I’m still hesitant about changing that number now. Historically, quickly making major changes in an established government body often doesn’t go well.
While on the one hand, with more justices it might be less likely to have an imbalance, on the other hand if you do get an imbalance, it could take much longer to change.
As for justices having term limits, no. That would essentially make the members of the U.S. Supreme Court politicians. The president is popular right now? We better support their policies, whether they’re right or wrong. If they’re unpopular, we’d better reject them.
A more liberal Supreme Court (stacking) would undo many of the anti-democratic decisions of the current right-wing Roberts court… making it harder for these conservative fanatics to regain power again.
